The Importance of Internet Safety Rules to Kids

Internet Safety
In this modern age, one of the most useful sources of information available for children to do their school reports and researches is the Internet. It is also where games are made available easily for the very young. This is where parents should exercise and enforce Internet safety.
Having in mind the usefulness of the Internet for most children who go to school, parents should also take into consideration the hazards that the easy accessibility of the Internet to kids may pose. Internet safety should be observed and implemented by parents to their kids by educating their kids in the proper use and handling of the Internet. It is also advisable for parents to discuss with their children the things they should and should not give out online. Responsible parenthood comes in to ensure that the kids are using the Internet properly and responsibly. It is very important for parents to know what their kids view and hear on the Internet.
In this age where a lot of things happen due to lack of awareness in the hazardous world of the Internet it will be best for parents to set up some Internet safety rules that the children should observe religiously. Here are some of the Internet safety rules parents may impose on their children:
- Never exchange photographs over the Internet
- Never give out personal information like contact numbers, address, or even school
- Use a pseudo name and never give out real name.
- Always inform parents of any unusual emails or messages that might pop up
- Never encourage to have new friends over the Internet.
- Never surf or try to access any other sites other than the sites needed for school work.
The safety of our children is in our hands. We as parents should be cautious in allowing our children to be adventurous especially in their use of the Internet. They should observe Internet safety rules and use the Internet responsibly.
If you as parents have been very lax and have not been observing Internet safety rules in allowing your children to use the Internet, think again because you might be leading them to their distraction.
